Pete Hawkins
Pete Hawkins has been teaching outdoor enthusiasts how to navigate for his entire working life. Needing products that are reliable and robust he has exclusively used Silva compasses throughout this time.
Over the past 26 years, Pete has written for numerous magazines on using maps and compasses effectively and has had three books published on the subject by Cicerone. Map and Compass; the art of Navigation (2003), Navigation; Techniques and skills for walkers (2007) and Navigating with a GPS; Effective Skills for the outdoors (2008). He regularly speaks at shows and events.
In 2003, Pete established the Silva Navigation School in conjunction with Silva UK Ltd. The school runs courses throughout the year for walkers and other outdoor enthusiasts who want to learn effective map and compass skills. The courses are run from the English Peak District village of Tideswell and are suitable for beginners and those wanting to brush up on their existing skills.
