Calle Friberg blog: Preparing for Spain!

The last couple of weeks I have been training pretty good actually. Not compared to when I was pro MTB:er, but comparing with the last 2 years. Almost starting to feel like an athlete again. Feels good. The main reason I have stepped my training up a notch is because I´m going to participate in a 6 day MTB stage race in Spain at the end of Febuary called Andalucia Bike Race.
I´m altering some cycling with running(both treadmill and outside), gym work and XC skiing when possible. And not to forget, the weekly indoor hockey match. Variation is key. www.andaluciabikerace.com is a 2 riders team race and I´ll do it together with my friend Jojje Borssén from the magazine Kadens and Runners world. I have done a few stage races(both road & MTB) and it´s fun, but hard of course. This will be Jojjes first one so I think it´ll be a great experience for him. I will try to give him some tips along the way, but I´m pretty sure he´ll be fine. He has done a few Ironmans so he´s used to suffering. And my friends at Honeystinger will help feed us during the race with energy bars, gels, waffles etc. A couple guys from Honeystinger is also now testing the Silva Tyto lights when training there in Colorado.

I have to mention this kinda funny thing during run in the evening last week. At the parking lot when I was done I met a guy who was also just done. He came out of the forest with a backpack and no headlight. I asked him if it wasn´t too dark to run in the forest with a backpack(military style) without any light. He said: - Well, it´s ok, you get used to it, but it would be better with a headlight yeah…
?? I´d say so :)
I suggested he should invest in a X Trail or Sprint…
Have fun out there training! ( and bring your headlamps)
