New blog on silva.se : Calle Friberg, former pro cyclist
I´ll be testing a few lamps during mainly mountainbiking, running and XC-skiing(If there´ll be some snow?). It´s dark now at least, thats for sure. Which means training in the dark. That doesn´t have to be a problem. Not at all. I say just turn it into a good & fun problem.
My background is mainly MTB Cross Country racing at high level since 1992. Since 2000 up until 2009 its been more or less on a proffessional level in various european teams and also many appearences in the national team through out the years. Now I still train quite often and I even did a couple of races this year, but more to keep fit and have fun. Back in the -90:s I used to train quite a lot with a headlamp during the fall and winter time. A group of guys in Stockholm met up and rode flat out for 1,5 hr around the Hellas area. Really good training because a couple elite riders always made us younger(incl. Silva ambassador and old friend Fredrik Kessiakoff) suffer for life. Fun too, now when I think back.
The last years, when I, as a proffessional, had the chance to train during daytime, I havn´t been out there training in the dark that much to be honest. But nowadays when I´m normally not training during daytime I ”rediscovered” when got the chance to test some of Silvas headlamps, I´m hooked again. I forgot how fun it is to ride a nice singletrack in the dark. Or actually thats the thing, it isn´t in the dark The last 2 weeks I rode MTB with the Silva Sprint Plus on my helmet 3 times. Every time when it was pitch dark. Soo much fun riding as fast as it was daylight, you really see everything and forget that you´re wearing a headlamp and battery. I´m really impressed how good it was.
I also have to mention the Haga Bike Rally, which I coudn´t race myself, but was there to watch. Silva ”crashed” this MTB night race in Hagaparken in Stockholm and handed out prices to every participant and also gave away a Sprint Plus headlamp to the winner. Was great to see so many local racers turn up and race in the dark.
And if the Haga race seemed like a lot of people, the Silva/Fredrik Kessiakoff/Specialized event the week after, was insane! 63! riders turned up at the Specialized Concept Store in Hammarby to mingle and then later go for a ride in Hellas. We had a great ride and it was
spectacular to see so many cyclists with headlamps in the dark!
Until next time!
Calle
